4.A.Man.With.An.Ex,Next!

I feel like I am highly equipped to talk about this subject. It seems that I always attract a man who is essentially “perfect,” except for the fact that they are still not over their ex-girlfriend. Lucky me! Baggage attracts baggage, I guess… or maybe it’s the commitment issue.

I constantly try to figure out what my problem is: why are these guys still hung up on their exes when an outstanding, talented, hilarious, stylish goddess is standing right in front of them? Maybe I’m not as extraordinary as I thought. Then again, I do blend in with every other fake blonde. But enough self-deprecation— I’m starting to realize the issue isn’t me, it’s them. Sorry buddy, you have an emotional hang-up, and she’s not coming back (at least, not if she has any self-worth)! You’re also just not Him.

To reassure us, ladies, that there’s nothing wrong with us and to give these guys the benefit of the doubt (because I’m definitely not a misandrist), I decided to do a little research on the subject. According to an article by Nicole Spector for NBC News, specialists confirm that men never fully recover from a breakup. So, if you feel like your ex is still obsessed with you, you’re not being delusional. He probably IS! Specialists say this is because men do not handle rejection well, struggle with accepting responsibility, and are less equipped with emotional support (Spector). Shocker! Women really are superior. However, it’s not about blaming men or putting ourselves on a pedestal— it’s just a reminder that we, as women, often have more emotional resilience and support systems in place (those yap sessions are important).

So next time you catch yourself wondering why he can’t seem to move on from his ex or fully commit to you, remember: it's not you, it’s him.
